The Russian soprano Alina Martemianova has been described as a “deeply moving” (BO.de) singer who impresses “with strong stage presence and exceptional acting talent” (Schwarwälder Bote). Born in Belogorsk, Russia, and now living in Austria. Alina is a soprano who distinguishes herself in classical opera, contemporary music, and concert repertoire.
In the 2024/25 season she appeared as the Owl in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and as a Bridesmaid in Weber’s Der Freischütz at the Landestheater Linz. She has worked with directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Thomas Enzinger, and Hermann Schneider, and with conductors including Zubin Mehta, Markus Poschner, and Josef Wallnig, amongst others.
Her repertoire ranges from Mozart to Verdi and includes roles such as Papagena and First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Annina in Verdi’s La Traviata, Barbarina and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Musetta in Puccinis La Boheme. A particular focus of her artistic work is contemporary music – she performed the soprano part in Im Geheimnis by Jean-Baptiste Marchand, premiered at the Crossroads Festival Salzburg.
As a concert soloist, she captivates audiences with vivid, colourful, and expressive interpretations. She has performed works such as Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. In addition to her performances in Austria, concert tours have taken her to Germany, Spain, Bulgaria, and Russia. The press has praised her as “a soprano with a radiant timbre and a distinctive stage personality”(DrehPunktKultur).
Beyond the opera stage, Alina Martemianova maintains a close affinity with chamber music. After several years of steady theatre engagements, she rediscovered with renewed passion the intimacy and direct connection with the audience that this format allows. Through numerous recitals and chamber music concerts, she has built a repertoire ranging from classical song and rarely performed works to contemporary programs. These experiences reflect her artistic curiosity and her joy in immediate musical dialogue.
She studied at the University Mozarteum Salzburg, where she was significantly influenced by Bernd Valentin, complemented by an exchange semester at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig. She also received important impulses from masterclasses with Sumi Jo, Rudolf Piernay, and Peter Berne.
At the beginning of her career, at the Galina Vishnevskaya College MTK in Moscow, she gained her fisrt stage experience – not only as a singer but alsoas an actress – performing roles such as Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro by Beaumarchais), Lady Macduff (Macbeth), and Ophelia (Hamlet). This artistic background continues to imbues all her interpretations with additional stage presence and dramatic sensitivity.
